To support surround sound, a Mercedes-Benz vehicle must have a Burmester 3D or 4D sound system, which costs thousands of dollars.

Apple Music has been available directly through MBUX in new Mercedes-Benz vehicles since last year. Spatial Sound provides a completely immersive sound experience, making it seem like the music is coming from all around you. The feature appeared last year on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV, and will now be available in cars.

“Spatial sound is a revolution in the world of music making and listening to music. This is an experience that cannot be described in words. You need to hear it for yourself to understand its value,” wrote Apple Music and Beats Vice President Oliver Chasser in a press release. “Together with Mercedes-Benz, we will have even more opportunities to provide complete music immersion for our subscribers around the world.”
