Downloads from the Play Store and App Store are down

Downloads from the Play Store and App Store are down. The number of app downloads from Google Play and the App Store plummeted in the second quarter of 2022. This was reported by a research by SafeBettingSites.com, a site according to which the total number of downloads on both stores decreased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year.

In the period under review, the combined total of downloads across both stores was 34.4 billion apps; in the same period of 2021 the number of downloads was 35.9 billion and therefore the number of downloads fell by 4.2% year on year.

In the first quarter of 2022, 36.8 billion downloads were recorded; in the second quarter there was a decline of 6.2% compared to the previous quarter.

Looking at the two stores separately, downloads fell on both digital stores. In the second quarter, downloads on Google Play went from 28 billion to 27 billion; and decreased by 3.6% year on year; those on the App Store went from 7.9 billion to 7.4 billion, a year-over-year decline of 6.3%.

From Q1 to Q2, downloads from the Play Store went from 28.3 billion to 27 billion, a decline that reduced downloads by 4.6%, which is larger than the year-over-year decline. App Store downloads went from 8.5 billion in Q1 to 7.4 billion in Q2.

The App Store does better than the Play Store in user spending

There was also a decrease in user spending on Google Play, while a slight increase was recorded for that of App Store users.

User spending went from 11.3 billion in Q1 2021 to 10.6 billion in Q2 2022. App Store purchases decreased by 6.2% year on year; in contrast, spending on the App Store grew from $ 20.8 billion in Q2 201 to $ 219 billion in Q2 2022, an increase of 5.3%. Looking at the numbers combined, total spending increased from 32.1 billion to 32.5 billion, a modest increase of 0.9%.

User spending on Google Play in the second quarter also decreased compared to the previous quarter. Users spent $ 10.7 billion in Q1 and $ 10.6 billion in Q2. Spending on the App Store increased slightly, from 21.8 billion to 21.9 billion. The overall expenditure of the two stores has remained constant over the last two quarters.
