If you still have your old iPhone

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Make sure to update iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest available versions of iOS and watchOS
  • If you back up via iCloud, go to Settings> [your name]> iCloud and check that the setting for the Health app is active. If you are backing up via computer, encrypt the backup to save the contents of the Health and Activity apps.
  • Back up your old iPhone
  • Now set up the new iPhone. When asked if you have an iCloud or iTunes backup, choose the most recent backup to restore data from the old device to the new one.
  • When asked on iPhone if you want to use your Apple Watch, tap Continue. If you are not asked, you can still configure the Apple Watch manually in the next step.
  • Bring the Apple Watch close to the iPhone and open the Watch app on the iPhone. If the iPhone asks you to confirm if you want to use the watch, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. If the iPhone asks you to start pairing, unpair the Apple Watch so you can configure the watch.

If you don’t have your old iPhone

If you have already sold your old iPhone or if you have restored it, follow these steps:

  • Reset the Apple Watch.
  • Set up (if you haven’t already) the new iPhone and log into iCloud.
  • Open the Watch app on the new iPhone, then pair the watch with the new iPhone.
  • Now perform a restore from a backup. Always check that the iPhone and Apple Watch are up to date, because, if they are not, you may not see the backup in the list. Remember that if you use iCloud on iOS 11 and later, your Health and Activity data is stored in iCloud and automatically updated on devices currently logged in with the same Apple ID.
  • If you are prompted to restore from a watch backup, select the most recent backup.
  • If you don’t have a backup, you need to set up the Apple Watch as new.
  • Follow the steps to complete the setup.

You are now ready to use the new Apple Watch.
