How to disable Apple CarPlay in a specific vehicle
Through the iPhone?
Follow the steps below to disable CarPlay for a specific vehicle but continue to use it in other vehicles.
- Open iPhone Settings and tap on General.
- Select CarPlay.
- In the Available Vehicles section, select the vehicle in which you do not want to use CarPlay.
- Click Forget this car > Forget.
Now you will no longer be able to use CarPlay with this vehicle. However, the next time you connect your iPhone to the car’s USB port, you’ll see a prompt to turn on CarPlay, which you can choose to ignore or decline.
Note: If you want to stop your iPhone’s Bluetooth from automatically connecting to your car, go to iOS Settings > Bluetooth > ⓘ next to your car > Forget This Device.

By following the steps above, your iPhone will forget this car. If you want to use CarPlay in the future, you will have to do the basic setup again.
Even after you have disconnected your car from CarPlay, your car screen will prompt you to start CarPlay every time you connect your iPhone to the car’s USB port to charge. This popup can be annoying. To fix this issue, disable CarPlay for your iPhone in the car’s settings.
Please note that, unlike the iPhone method, the steps below are not standard and may vary for different vehicles. It is also likely that your vehicle’s media system may not have these settings. Here is an example of settings for Renault:
- Start the car and wait for the media system to load.
- Click “Settings”.
- Select the Connection tab.
- Click View Smartphone Device List.
- Click No, which will disable CarPlay for this iPhone.
How to limit or disable CarPlay for all vehicles on your iPhone?
Follow these steps to block wired and wireless connection to CarPlay on iPhone if you don’t plan to use CarPlay at all or if you’re fed up with constant alerts when iPhone is connected:
- Open the Settings app and tap on Screen Time. Enable it if the feature is disabled.
- Click “Content and Privacy” and on the next screen, make sure this setting is enabled.
- Select Allowed Apps.
- Disable CarPlay.
You have successfully disabled CarPlay on your iPhone. If you want to use CarPlay again, turn it on the same way.
