Samsung unveils the first sliding screen tablet – rollable. During the Intel Innovation event that took place in recent days, Samsung unveiled the first tablet in the world with a sliding or rollable screen, a device that provides the user with a tablet with a 13-inch screen but which turns into a mega tablet from 17 ”, which can thus also act as a secondary portable screen.

On the Intel Innovation stage, the demonstration was offered by JS Choi, CEO of Samsung Display, in a speech by him during the presentation keynote given by Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel. Intel’s chief executive said he first saw this technology by personally visiting Samsung Display labs in South Korea.
In the keynote video, the first tablet with a sliding screen – rollable seems to require a slight force on the part of the user to switch from 13 “to 17” mode. This also applies to the closing maneuver to switch from the extended 17 “version and back to the 13” device. In any case, in the demonstration area of the event, Samsung showed two prototypes of this technology that opened and closed automatically between the two modes, operated by an external device.
The prototype that extends the screen in one direction is the same one unveiled on the stage of the keynote, but Samsung also showed a second prototype capable of extending the display to both the right and left. No mention of the technical specifications, except to specify that the user interface adapts to flight automatically as the tablet increases or reduces the size of the display.
Unlike folding smartphones, in which Samsung is already at its fourth generation terminals with Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, for tablets with sliding display the South Korean giant does not seem willing to offer them immediately with its brand, but seeks manufacturers and technological partners to transform prototypes into real devices to be marketed.
