Samsung will bring forward the production of OLED panels for iPhone 15, here’s why. An Apple supplier will fail to produce OLED panels for the iPhone 15 on time. Samsung Display will start producing OLED panels for the iPhone 15 series a month ahead of schedule due to production issues with one of Apple’s other suppliers.

iOS 17 will bring bug fixes and few new features

Samsung will start producing the OLED panels in May instead of June to compensate for the lack of initial orders that BOE had to fill, due to a delay due to problems with light leakage around the portion of the OLED display where they are located the pill and hole cutouts.

Apple had ordered Chinese partner BOE to produce some OLED panels for the standard iPhone 15 model, but the problems encountered were so serious that Apple withdrew the order. Samsung had already planned to produce the OLED panel for the standard model of the ‌iPhone 15‌ range as well, but will now start production earlier in light of the Chinese manufacturer’s problems.

The ‌iPhone 15‌ standard and Plus models will use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFTs), so the devices will still not have ProMotion support and the always-on display option like the Pro models.

Meanwhile, LG Display will begin manufacturing LTPO TFT OLED panels targeting iPhone 15 Pro models. The LPTO panels feature 120Hz ProMotion support and a 1Hz refresh rate capability that allows an inactive lock screen to remain visible without significantly affecting the battery.

The early start of construction by Samsung does not necessarily mean the end for BOE as an Apple supplier, at least according to today’s report. The Chinese maker is reportedly showing progress in addressing the light leak issue and may begin shipping OLED panels for the ‌iPhone 15‌ later this year.
