Spatial audio in cars, Apple in talks with car manufacturers. In October last year, Apple announced a partnership with Mercedes-Benz to deliver a world-class in-car sound experience with Dolby Atmos, offering spatial audio in several models of the German manufacturer (EQA, EAE, S-Class and Maybach, not exactly entry level models).

On the occasion of the presentation of the Apple Music Classical app, the French financial newspaper Les Échos reports that it has received confirmation of agreements already signed with Mercedes-Benz, including with other car manufacturers.
Les Échos does not indicate whether the source of the rumor is Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music and Beats, but the rumor is not surprising.
It remains to be seen what the requirements for spatial audio will be: in the Mercedes the integration of Dolby Atmos immersive audio is possible for the Burmester high-end 4D and 3D audio systems. A classic top-end car like the S-Class or EQS can be fitted with a Burmester High-End 4D-surround audio system with 39 speakers, with obvious advantages in terms of sound quality.
The Mercedes-Maybach Virgil Abloh edition, a luxury car created by the former Louis Vuitton designer, is one of the first in the world to offer 3D and 4D audio, includes 31 speakers, 6 of which are specifically designed to reproduce 3D audio from the top of the passenger compartment; another 4 loudspeakers are, however, placed near the ears of the listeners and incorporated in the front seats. The overall power of the system is 1750 watts of power.
