The OPPO Reno9 series is official, with 16GB of RAM on the Pro models

The OPPO Reno9 series is official, with 16 GB of RAM on the Pro models. The Chinese manufacturer OPPO has recently unveiled, for the Chinese market, the three smartphones that make up the OPPO Reno9 series, characterized by a design that uniforms them with each other aesthetically (and which makes them look a lot like the predecessors of the Reno8 range) but equipped with technical specifications that place them in various segments of the Android smartphone market.

Garmin, the update enhances smartwatches and cycle computers

Certainly the most interesting are the Pro and Pro+ models which, for the first time on the Reno series of the Chinese giant, offer only memory configurations with 16 GB of RAM memory. Let’s find out all the details of these three new smartphones.

OPPO Reno9 Pro + is the spearhead of the range

Let’s start with the strong point of the trio, namely OPPO Reno9 Pro +. Like its brothers, it has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, which hides an optical fingerprint reader and is interrupted, at the top, by a centered circular hole that houses a sensor 32-megapixel photo camera. However, he is the only one to offer a curved display on the edges, reducing the overall dimensions compared to the brothers: in fact, it is the most “compact” in plan of the three, but it is also the thickest and heaviest (it is made with a frame in aluminum and glass front/rear).

The back is made with a design that incorporates the concepts introduced with the OPPO Reno8 range: in this case, the whole island that houses the cameras protrudes from the body and houses three sensors, a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/ 1.8, 6P lens, PDAF and optical stabilization, an 8 megapixel ultra-wide angle with 120 degree viewing angle (which also acts as a macro sensor) and a 2 megapixel depth of field sensor.

OPPO Reno9 Pro + is the first smartphone of the Chinese manufacturer that pairs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with the proprietary MariSilicon X NPU, gaining artificial intelligence performance even higher than that of the current top range of the house, i.e. the OPPO Find X5 Pro (find our review here). To support the SoC, then, we find 16 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage space.

Complete in terms of connectivity (5G networks, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual band GPS, NFC, USB-C), he is the only one of the lot to offer stereo audio. In addition, it houses a 4700 mAh battery that supports 80W wired fast charging, capable of fully recharging the smartphone in 31 minutes (in 10 minutes it goes from 0% to 45%). The operating system closes the package, which is ColorOS 13 based on Android 13.

OPPO Reno9 Pro loses a photographic sensor and the Qualcomm SoC

Let’s go down one step and move on to the middle model, or OPPO Reno9 Pro. It is slightly larger in plan than its premium brother but, at the same time, it is undoubtedly thinner (excluding the protruding cameras) and lighter, probably due to the battery less capacious from 4500 mAh which is recharged “only” at 67 W.

Net of the decidedly less accentuated curvature of the display, the front is practically the same as the model with the “+”; at the rear, however, although the design is very similar, the entire island that contains the photographic compartment does not protrude: in fact, only the circular portholes that house the two sensors present (unlike the three offered by the older brother) protrude.

OPPO Reno9 Pro offers a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel main sensor with 7P lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with 112-degree viewing angle.

As far as performance is concerned, here we find a MediaTek-branded solution, or the Dimensity 8100 made at 5 nanometers, supported by the NPU MariSilicon X to improve performance in the field of artificial intelligence. Like the “+” model, it offers 16 GB of RAM, whether you choose the cut with 256 GB of storage space or the one with 512 GB.

Finally, the equipment from the point of view of connectivity is good (it loses the dual-band GPS but gains Bluetooth 5.3) and, also in this case, the operating system is the ColorOS 13 based on Android 13.

OPPO Reno9 aims all proven specifications

At the base of the range, at least for the moment, is OPPO Reno9, a smartphone that has many in common with the middle model (same body, same display, same battery, same number of photographic sensors and same operating system).

From a performance point of view, here we find 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage space alongside Qualcomm’s highly tested Snapdragon 778G 5G SoC, without, however, the MariSilicon X NPU to refine the performance related to the artificial intelligence.

As far as the rear cameras are concerned, once again contained in an island on the body from which only the two large circular portholes protrude, this time the ultra-wide-angle sensor disappears: the two sensors, in fact, are a 64-megapixel wide-angle and a 2 megapixel depth of field sensor.
