How to dry iPhone?

Many users often do stupid things and use some strange methods in order, as they think, to minimize losses after dropping the phone into the water. They just make it even worse. We asked our Apple Pro friends what mistakes they made most often and they told us a lot of interesting things.

First of all, when you take a wet iPhone out of the water, you need to thoroughly wipe it with a towel to get rid of the liquid at least from the outside. put in rice? Well, this is optional, although it is known that the method does not help dry the iPhone. It is better to disassemble the smartphone yourself or contact the workshop for this. But by no means do the following.

  • Do not turn on your phone if it has turned off. Better disable it if it still works. You do not need to check its performance here and now. The iPhone will work after it gets in the water, but only because you turn it off.
  • It seems to many that after the iPhone falls into the water, it is necessary to check whether the charging is working and whether there is power. The answer is: don’t do this. Neither wired, nor wirelessly, nor with MagSafe.
  • In addition to the fact that charging an iPhone that has been in water can lead to a short circuit, it also accelerates the corrosion of the case. The fact is that the iPhone will not dry faster if you put it on charge – but inside and out, individual elements may deteriorate. Corrosion on the boards can take place in just a couple of hours. And given the thin and delicate components that are inside the phone, there will be no turning back after that.

By the way, if you have tools, you can disassemble it yourself, but only at your own peril and risk. If you decide, then fold the screws separately so as not to confuse. You should not do this if you have never disassembled the iPhone yourself or if it is under warranty.

It is best to immediately turn to specialists who will open the case, dry it and process it. So the probability of saving the phone will increase significantly. It is not the water itself that is terrible, but its falling on the boards through which the current passes. We can recommend Apple Pro in this case, but you can choose any service center you trust.

iPhone fell into the water – what to do

But what if there is a drowned iPhone in front of you, and nothing can be done with it? All the same, that it is impossible to render any help to the injured person. In fact, if you can’t disassemble an iPhone, by and large, you need a minimum of action.

  • Do not use a hair dryer to dry. It seems like an easy way to dry your smartphone, but in the process you can get carried away, choose the wrong speed and start “chasing” water all over the case. The same goes for trying to blow out the iPhone with compressed air.
  • Be sure to remove the case, protective glass and other accessories: this way water will get out of hard-to-reach areas faster.
  • Do not use heaters or place your smartphone in direct sunlight. Elevated temperatures harm the components of the iPhone – in particular, the battery, which already has a very short life. It is better to leave the smartphone in a draft or place it near a fan.
  • Sometimes you can come across the advice to put the iPhone in alcohol, but this is a very bad idea: the method is quick, because the water dissolves, but the display will definitely deteriorate and the speakers will be deformed
  • In no case do not try to shake the iPhone to expel the liquid: this will “shake” the liquid around the case. Instead, it is better to open the SIM card slot and take it out: the more air will enter inside, the better.

If you have done everything as indicated above, but do not want to contact specialists, then leave your smartphone off for at least a day. But do not forget that you need to put the iPhone correctly. Here’s what you need to pay attention to so as not to harm.

Do not turn the iPhone upside down: the drops will continue to roll around the case, they will only wet the rest of the modules, which may have been intact after falling into the water.
Only after 1-2 days try to turn on the iPhone. Earned? Until then, congratulations. The fact is that “drowned people”, even if they turn on, can behave unpredictably: today they work, tomorrow they don’t. Glitches may start in the system and with individual modules (camera, Wi-Fi, cellular or battery). This may be a temporary system glitch, but the problem may also remain with you forever.

How to dry iPhone after water

It is better to put the smartphone with the screen up: water will dry evenly in the case located on a flat surface for a long time and will not drain onto the screen. If you have an iPhone without water protection, then this may cause yellow spots around the perimeter of the screen.

Experts advise to observe the smartphone, or better, immediately after the incident, take it to the service, carefully wrapping it in microfiber. Considering how much the iPhone costs now, visiting the service is a real lifesaver. It is better to entrust the diagnosis to trained people than to be left with a working but buggy smartphone later. By the way, water harms not only the iPhone, but also the MacBook.
