Apple announces the new Apple Watch Ultra

Apple announces the new Apple Watch Ultra. Apple Watch Ultra is the new top-of-the-range smartwatch dedicated to extreme sports. After announcing the new Apple Watch Series 8 and the new SE, Apple has introduced a third model in its range of smartwatches specifically dedicated to athletes: Apple Watch Ultra.

iPhone 14, “Accident detection” and “Emergency SOS via Satellite”

The new Apple Watch Ultra features a sportier design than the Series 8, as its focus is clearly aimed at a target of people who practice the most extreme sports. The case, made entirely of titanium, reaches 49 mm. Say goodbye to the curved display we’ve seen so far on Apple Watch, replaced by a completely flat display covered with sapphire glass, which should provide better shock resistance. In addition, the display is capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 2000 nits, which is about double that of a normal Apple Watch.

The WR100 certification (dives up to 40 meters) and MIL-STD 810 is present. On the side frame, in addition to a larger digital crown, there is an “Action” button to instantly switch from one training mode to another. In addition, thanks to a future update it will also be able to automatically detect when you arrive near a running track.

Since it is a model expressly dedicated to those who do sports immersed in nature, a notable upgrade on the autonomy side could not be missing, which now guarantees up to 36 hours of use in normal mode and up to 60 hours with the ultra saving mode. in addition to an additional low-power setting that reduces the rate of GPS and heart rate readings. Furthermore, it will only be available in the version with cellular connectivity.

The new Apple Watch Ultra can measure water temperature while diving, swimming and a host of other water sports thanks to new features, increased endurance and a new Depth app pre-installed on the watch. Thanks to the EN 13319 certification, the international standard for diving accessories used by professional divers, this smartwatch is complete for this type of activity.

During diving, for example, you can use the new Depth app which shows several key parameters, including current depth, time elapsed, current water temperature, time spent underwater and more. When underwater, the Apple Watch Ultra automatically opens the appropriate app, allowing you to quickly and easily obtain essential information without having to open it manually.

Obviously there is also no lack of new hardware, in fact both the microphones (there are three in total) and the speakers are further improved. An adaptive beamforming algorithm will use microphones to capture voice while reducing ambient background sounds, resulting in remarkable clarity. In harsh windy environments, Apple Watch Ultra uses advanced wind noise reduction algorithms, including machine learning, to provide clear, understandable audio for calls.

It also improves the accuracy of GPS, able to surpass that of any other sports watch. For the first time ever in an Apple Watch, dual-frequency precision GPS integrates both L1 and the latest frequency, L5, as well as new positioning algorithms. In this way it is able to provide users with the most accurate data on distance, pace and route for training and competition. An 86 decibel siren was also integrated inside it, capable of alerting other people to our position up to 180 meters away.

Obviously, Apple Watch Ultra includes all the connectivity, activity and health features already present on other Apple Watch models: heart rate monitoring, ECG, blood oxygenation monitoring, activity rings and much more. Also, just like the Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra is capable of detecting a serious car accident with Crash Detection. When Apple Watch detects a serious car accident, the device checks in with the user and calls emergency services after a 10-second countdown. Rescuers will receive the location of the user’s device, also shared with the emergency contacts.

News also regarding the straps, in fact we now have three new models:

  • Alpine Loop – strap made especially for explorers
  • Ocean band – option made for those who practice water sports at high speed
  • Trail Loop – strap made for athletes who need more elasticity.
