For those who own a HomePod or HomePod mini, it’s important to ensure that your iOS, iPadOS, or macOS devices are updated to their latest versions before proceeding with the HomePod update. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the update process:

  1. Begin by opening the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Once in the app, locate and click or tap the More button, represented by three dots.
  3. Navigate to Home Settings, then select Software Update.
  4. In the Software Update section, if an update is available for your HomePod, you will see an “Update” option. Select this to initiate the update process.
  5. If no update is available, you have the option to turn on automatic updates for your HomePod. This setting ensures that your device will automatically download and install the latest software as soon as it becomes available.
  6. The Software Update section will also inform you if your HomePod is already up to date, displaying the current software version installed on your device.

It’s worth noting that both the HomePod and HomePod mini are designed to automatically install new software updates by default. However, if you prefer to manually check for updates, this can easily be done through the Home app.

During the update process, you will notice a rotating white light on the top of your HomePod. This is an indication that the update is in progress. The duration of the update can vary, so it is advised to keep your HomePod plugged in and uninterrupted during this time to ensure a smooth and complete update.

Apple’s commitment to regularly updating the software of its devices like the HomePod and HomePod mini is part of their ongoing effort to enhance user experience and device performance. With each update, Apple aims to resolve any known issues and improve the overall functionality of its smart home devices, ensuring they remain efficient and enjoyable for users. This latest update is a continuation of that commitment, offering users of the HomePod and HomePod mini an improved and more stable smart speaker experience.
