Apple Watch Series 9 will integrate a new chip based on A15

Apple Watch Series 9 will integrate a new chip based on A15. The Apple Watch Series 9 that Apple will introduce before the end of the year will integrate a new processor based on the A15 chip, the SoC that Apple first used in the iPhone 13.

iPhone 15 Pro Max: thinner bezels, but no solid-state keys

This was reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in the Discord channel for users of his newsletter “Power On”.

The Apple Watch Series 8 – notes the Macrumors website – like the Apple Watch Series 7, integrates a chip that is essentially identical to the S6 chip in the Apple Watch Series 6. Apple calls the chip in ‌Apple Watch Series 8‌ “S8” but it is a 7nm SiP processor (a 1.8GHz dual core) that is essentially two years old, with no performance improvements.

Bloomberg’s editor says the Apple Watch Series 9 chip will be a “new processor” and not a rebrand of the previous chip, and when asked if the chip will be based on the A15, Gurman said he believes that will be the case.

Updating the SiP with technologies derived from the A15 could mean improvements in speed and efficiency, including improvements in terms of battery life.

The new chip could be exploited for features that we should see with watchOS 10, an operating system on which Apple is working and that we should see in the first beta version in June, on the occasion of the annual developer conference. According to rumors circulated so far, watchOS 10 should boast, among other things, a new widget system.

As for the Apple Watch Series 9‌, not many rumors have been circulated and apparently it should be very similar to the current Series 8.
