Durability Face-Off: iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold & Google Pixel Fold Tested. Comparing Durability: iPhone 15 Pro Max, Galaxy Z Fold5, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Google Pixel Fold. Allstate Protection, a prominent U.S. insurer specializing in device coverage, recently shared a captivating video showcasing the durability tests of some of the market’s premium gadgets, notably spotlighting the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The devices on trial included the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, and the Google Pixel Fold. These represent the priciest offerings from Apple, Google, and Samsung, all predominantly featuring glass exteriors.

The methodology? Allstate submerged the phones in water for half an hour before dropping them from a height of 1.80 meters onto a concrete surface. A specialized tool ensured each device faced the same drop conditions: same height and angle.

While all the phones boasted impressive water resistance, proving operational post-submersion, their confrontations with concrete were less successful. All the models succumbed to the impact.

During the frontal impact test, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s screen shattered instantly, rendering the phone inoperable due to the glass splinters. The Galaxy S23 mirrored this fragility.

Conversely, the Z Fold5 and Pixel Fold displayed marginally better resilience to dual drops, exhibiting frame damage and superficial wear. This superior durability is attributed by Allstate to the protective ridges framing their screens. However, these two weren’t immune to damage when their displays were shut.

When assessing rear impact, both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra bore the brunt of the damage most severely. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max remained functional, a pair of its cameras were compromised by the shattered glass protecting the camera module.

It’s pivotal to contextualize these tests. The outcomes can vary due to factors like drop height, phone angle, case usage, etc. Such tests aren’t definitive reflections of a phone’s overall durability.

For peace of mind, Apple offers AppleCare+, an insurance scheme coupled with technical support and augmented hardware coverage. This provides users two repairs for accidental damages annually, with costs ranging from €29 for screen or back glass damages to €99 for other accidental incidents. The coverage commences from the AppleCare+ purchase date.
