The Pixel 8 stands out with its curved edges and a more compact form than the previous generation. This model sports a 6.2-inch Actua display, which is touted to outshine the Pixel 7’s screen by 42%. Coming in hues like gray-green, pink, and obsidian black, the Pixel 8 also offers a lustrous glass back.

The Pixel 8 Pro, on the other hand, boasts a vibrant 6.7-inch Super Actua display, which Google claims maintains its brightness even under direct sunlight. This model sports a minimalist flat display and features a matte finish, complemented by a refined aluminum frame. It’s available in sky blue, clay gray, and obsidian black. A unique addition to the Pixel 8 Pro is a temperature sensor at the back, facilitating heat scans on objects or individuals.

Revolutionizing Photography

Both smartphones bring significant enhancements to their camera systems. The Pixel 8 features an upgraded 50MP primary camera, identical to the 8 Pro, and a new 12MP ultrawide lens proficient in macro focusing. The Pro variant takes things up a notch with its 48MP telephoto and ultrawide sensors and a 10.5 MP front camera.

Google has also revamped its camera app, which now allows users to quickly access their preferred photo and video modes. The Pixel 8 Pro offers added professional controls, giving users a heightened control over settings like shutter speed and ISO.

AI-Driven Innovations

The Pixel 8 series introduces the “Best Shot” feature, an intelligent system that combines a sequence of photos to create the optimal image. Another standout is the Magic Editor in Google Photos, which lets users edit pictures using AI. The “Audio Magic Eraser” is designed to mitigate background noise in videos, employing advanced machine learning.

Google’s upcoming “Video Boost” promises enhanced video processing, and the “Summarize” function offers condensed versions of online content. Pixel’s advanced speech recognition technology provides users with more organic interaction, recognizing speech nuances. The “Call Filter” further optimizes user experience, minimizing spam calls using AI.

Backing the Pixel 8 series is the Titan M2 security chip paired with Google Tensor G3, offering enhanced protection against advanced cyber threats. Furthermore, the Pixel 8’s Face Unlock feature now extends its security to financial apps, providing a more secure transaction environment.

Google Guarantees Seven Years of Software Support for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. For the first time, Google pledges a full seven years of software support for its Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This includes OS updates, security patches, and regular Feature Drops.

Pricing and Availability

The new smartphones are now available for pre-order across partner channels and on the Google Store. The Pixel 8 starts at 799 euros, while the Pixel 8 Pro is priced from 1099 euros. Both devices will be available for purchase starting October 12th.
