Lexon Flip Plus review, elegant, simple and ingenious alarm clock

Lexon Flip Plus review, elegant, simple and ingenious alarm clock. Since iPhone and Android have become essential parts of our lives, devices such as alarm clocks have become less important, but they haven’t disappeared: some, like the new Lexon Flip Plus, offer a system as interesting as it is simple to get you out of the blankets, without hating it anymore by much.

iPhone 14 Pro, the trick to enable the always on mode like in Android

Which, allow us, is a great result: for a few weeks it has allowed us to arrive at the office on time, and we decided to tell you about it.

Alarm clock vs iPhone

Before the Lexon Flip Plus, our morning rises were marked by the ringtone of the iPhone 14 Pro, next to the bed. This, allow us, was the most convenient solution to the alarm clock problem but by no means the best one.

The problem is that there is no charging socket next to our bed and we had to rely on the smartphone battery, which is no problem if it charges, but if it was 50 or 40% it didn’t give us enough confidence.

The choice to opt for a physical alarm clock, with batteries, therefore seemed the best thing to us, so that at night we could leave the iPhone charging and purifying in the intriguing Lexon Oblio in the living room.

A return back? For some perhaps, not for us, technology must serve the user, not cause anxiety: the best device is not the most powerful one, it is the one most suited to the purpose.

The power of simplicity

The dimensions of this alarm clock are very small, just 104x30x65.5 centimeters in size, for a very light plastic parallelepiped and with a side cover in velvety rubber.

The monochrome liquid crystal display resides on one of the sides, typically remains off unless one of the large surfaces is touched (it lasts only a few seconds then goes off by itself) while on the opposite side there are buttons for adjusting the ‘time and the two AAA batteries (included in the package) which are the only possible power source.

Flip

Once the batteries were in place, we proceeded to set the time, an operation which was useless because the Lexon Flip Plus is equipped with RCC technology (Radio controller clock, a technology which, thanks to a radio transmission, which for us comes from a station in Germany, allows automatic time setup once a day, with a margin of error of one second every 100,000 years, forgivable).

Once the time was defined, we also set the alarm time (unfortunately only one) and got ready for the fateful moment: to make the Lexon Flip Plus sound at the set time, just position it with the word “on” towards the high. In fact, the internal gyroscope replaces the old-fashioned buttons of the more classic models.

At the exact time the alarm rings with one beep every second for the first ten seconds, with a double beep for the next ten and a triple beep from thirty seconds to two minutes, after which it stops and no longer produces any sound until the next day . After two minutes of frantic beeps, if the user hasn’t gotten up, it means he doesn’t want to.

To stop the alarm, simply turn it with the word “off” upwards (or, in a less romantic way, by touching any of the rear physical keys). A light touch above the word “on” activates the snooze and the alarm rings after 5 minutes.

During the night, as mentioned, just touch the alarm clock and it will turn on for 4 seconds showing the time.

Discretion, always

The Flip’s move is, as expected, simple but ingenious: in a single movement we can define whether the alarm clock will sound or not (better not on Saturday and Sunday) but also turn it off.

To rotate the alarm clock we have to pay it the minimum amount of attention which is not a nuisance, but it is enough to wake up and decide to face everyday life.

At any time of the day, if the alarm is in “on” mode, the dial shows the time and, smaller, the alarm time (if the alarm is in “off”, only the time).

Considerations

Available in fifteen different colors, but with the same contained design and with the words “on” and “off” (which seem to us in Helvetica) the Lexon Flip Plus alarm clock is a device as simple as it is useful, in perspective, as well as elegant like all Lexon products.

The cost is absolutely accessible for an alarm clock that is not smart (it could have been, but perhaps losing part of its important simplicity and in any case at higher costs), but which still does its job silently and in any case very useful.

The proposal is in three sizes, to the medium format object of this review there is a smaller one and a larger one, the latter with a few more accessory functions and with a rechargeable battery.

Pros:

• Elegant, discreet and simple
• The Flip system is smart and useful
• Available in many colors
• Time control via RCC

Versus:

• Charge only with batteries
• Only one alarm clock available

Price:

• €29.90 (Lexon Flip Plus Travel)
• €39.90 (Lexon Flip Plus)
• €49.90 (Lexon Flip Premium)
