Sources at Windows Central say the specs and name of the new device are unknown, but it would have a 180-degree hinge with an external display similar to the Vivo X Fold.
The alleged insiders say that Microsoft is planning to expand its offering of Android phones. It’s apparently “exploring” other form factors, including more conventional smartphone prototypes. A software initiative, “Perfect Together,” would also provide tighter integration between Surface Phones and Windows, just like iPhone and Mac.
After all, the difficulties that the Surface Duo series went through are well known. Smartphones have struggled to stay on the market due to high prices, unreliable software, and often lower performance than the latest Android flagships. While the dual-screen design offered some smart multitasking capabilities, it still struggled with rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, which are believed to be more powerful and reliable.
A foldable Surface smartphone would put Microsoft into more direct competition with brands like Samsung and Vivo, but there’s no guarantee it will stand out in a fast-growing field: either way, moving on from Duo could be a major step forward. Microsoft.
