Motorola launches Defy 2 satellite smartphone

Motorola has introduced a smartphone Defy 2 with support for satellite communications. Messages from a smartphone are sent directly to satellites, and from there they go to the terrestrial network infrastructure. You will need a dedicated Bullitt Messenger app to send and reply.

You will have to pay separately for sending messages via satellites: 30 messages per month for 5 euros, 125 messages – 10 euros, 400 messages – 30 euros.

In the US, the smartphone costs $599. In Europe, it will be sold under the CAT brand.

The most interesting was the Motorola Defy Safelite Link transmitter, which allows you to connect to satellites from any smartphone. Communication with the device via Bluetooth.

A small accessory is protected from water, dust and drops. The capacity of the built-in battery is 600 mAh.

The Defy Satellite Link will go on sale in April. The US price will be $99. For messages via satellite, as in the case of a smartphone, you will have to pay separately. The service will launch first in Europe and North America, and by mid-year in Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Latin America.
