Nintendo Switch 2 will be very powerful with ray tracing

Nintendo Switch 2 will be very powerful with ray tracing. Nintendo Switch is still the protagonist of the gaming scene from the house of Mario, which could give way to a new model only in 2024. Despite the series of triple-A games on the way, including Super Mario Bros Wonder, it cannot be denied that the years is starting to make itself felt. This is why we’re starting to talk about Nintendo Switch 2, which the company even showed to the developers during a closed-door event held at Gamescom last month.

One of the demonstrations for Switch 2 would have been an enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This was reported by Eurogamer, who underlines that it was a technical demonstration, therefore without a guarantee that it could be a remastered or updated version of the title. That said, those in attendance would be shown the presence of the console, with a higher frame rate and resolution than the current Switch can handle.

Perhaps even more interestingly, VGC reports that Nintendo would also show The Matrix Awakens running on the development kit. This demo was originally designed to show what Unreal Engine 5 can do on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series Additionally, the Switch 2 demo is thought to have included NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology, ray tracing, and graphics comparable to those seen on the PS5 and Series

The Switch 2 is unlikely to compete with systems from Sony and Microsoft in terms of raw power. It certainly won’t succeed, especially if Nintendo wants to continue with the Switch-style portable hybrid format, unless the company wants to aim for a battery life of around 20 minutes. DLSS support is key, as it could help Nintendo run games at higher frame rates and resolutions without having to stuff more powerful components or an oversized battery into the Switch 2.

Nintendo is expected to release the Switch 2 (or whatever the console’s actual name is) in 2024. It will do so in a very different gaming landscape than the one the revolutionary Switch faced, having to compete with rivals like Steam Deck or other competitors similar.
