OPPO Reno8 T 5G review: a worthy contender

OPPO Reno8 T 5G review: a worthy contender. When there are announcements of new products, all attention is often focused on the flagships. However, when it comes to buying, people vote with their wallets and prefer balanced mid-range smartphones. What should be such a device? Beautiful, thin, comfortable, it should work for a long time and quickly, and even have various technical features like an AMOLED screen with 120 Hz support or high-speed charging. An example of such a versatile smartphone is the new OPPO Reno8 T 5G.

Brilliant look

In recent years, minimalism has been in fashion, so OPPO Reno8 T 5G is fully consistent with modern canons of beauty. The case has a plastic frame to reduce weight, and the front and back panels received curved edges. The smartphone feels good in the palm of your hand, and you don’t have to complain about the weight. Still, there is a large 6.7-inch screen, but we managed to maintain a balance between a large diagonal and a thin body with low weight.

The smartphone comes in two versions: Sunshine Gold and Midnight Black. I have just the first option, the color is catchy and varied. Hue, depending on the angle, varies from cream to pinkish-purple. The complete transparent silicone case will not hide such beauty.

It remains to be added that the platform for the lenses protrudes noticeably above the surface. If you do something with a smartphone while it is on the table and touch the screen, it will wiggle.

120 Hz and all

Almost all free space is allocated to the screen, the manufacturer specifically notes that the screen occupies 93% of the area. The frames are very thin, the display with curved edges is all like the flagships, including support for 120 Hz. Unless the display supports dynamic mode, but you can turn on the frequency of 60 Hz if you need to extend battery life.

The smartphone has a large margin of brightness, supports DCI-P3, light and dark design mode and two color profiles. One is brighter, the second with calmer flowers. If necessary, you can change the color temperature, as well as turn on the eye protection mode. In this case, the image may be black and white for minimal stress, or yellowish if you are not ready to go to extremes.

Camera with unexpected features

The main camera takes pictures at 12 MP by default, and if desired, you can manually switch to 108 MP. The difference between the frames is noticeable only when carefully comparing photos on a large monitor.

The camera focuses quickly and renders colors correctly without distorting the hues. From the settings, you can highlight the portrait mode, when the smartphone blurs the background with the help of an auxiliary lens and software. The software processing is sometimes rough along the contour, and it looks unnatural. Outdoors with good lighting and indoors, the shooting results are decent, the quality is good. The smartphone correctly conveys colors, the HDR mode moderately twists the picture.

I also met a completely original mode – super macro. Then the smartphone turns into a miniature microscope, making a magnification of 20 or 40 times and at the same time highlighting the object with a flashlight. However, in this case, you need to hold the device very confidently, avoiding the slightest hesitation. In addition, decent external lighting is also required. As a result, you can see the inscriptions on banknotes invisible to the eye or evaluate the structure of various materials.

The front camera traditionally pleases with quality and high resolution, with a selfie in full order. What is missing is shooting in 4K: neither the front nor the main camera is trained for this.

The heart of OPPO Reno8 T 5G is Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset with good performance. As an example, I launched CoD Mobile, the game runs normally with medium graphics settings without subsidence. To 8 GB of RAM, you can add another 4 to 8 GB from the permanent. My test device had 256 GB of memory, and if you wish, you can install a memory card, support up to 1 TB is declared.

The fingerprint scanner is built into the screen, it works very quickly and accurately, I did not notice any errors. The smartphone has stereo sound, the speakers sound loud and clear, except that they wheeze at maximum volume.

The SIM card tray is hybrid, you can immediately put either two SIMs, or one SIM paired with microSD.

Capacious battery in a slim design

You don’t have to worry about the operating time: the chipset is economical, and a 4800 mAh battery is placed in a thin case. Plus, it comes with a 67W SuperVOOC adapter for fast wired charging. The cable connects to the smartphone via USB-C port, and to the power adapter via USB-A. The charging speed is impressive: it takes less than 50 minutes to fully charge, and up to 40% of the smartphone is charged in just 20 minutes. I got about 6-7 hours of screen activity during the day.
