Pixel Fold has arrived but there are already broken screens

Pixel Fold has arrived but there are already broken screens. Foldable smartphones, even if well built and with tested opening and closing systems, are more delicate than traditional terminals: Google is also discovering this because already in the very first days of Pixel Fold availability (very limited) the first reports of problems emerge to the display, with reports of faults and even broken screens.

Renders of the Samsung Galaxy S23FE appeared on the network

Among the first cases ever that of ArsTechnica: the terminal lasted only four days, mostly spent on the desk and without ever a fall or an accident. On the fourth day, the display problems began with a row of pixels that were completely white and bright at 100%, after which the failure extended to the rest of the display which stopped responding to touch commands.

Subsequently a white halo began to spread in the lower part of the entire display which in the meantime became completely unusable. According to ArsTechnica, the plastic film does not completely protect the super-thin, bendable glass that covers the OLED screen, leaving a thin strip exposed along the perimeter of the entire screen.

Here small particles of dirt and debris are deposited: when the user closes the terminal these foreign bodies are crushed, damaging the small uncovered part of the display. Other users report that small dents are visible in this same area, most likely caused by debris and dirt pressed into the device’s latch.

A user in the USA complains that a scratch has formed on the foldable display after only one week of use. Dents and scratches in the first few days make users worry about the solidity and resistance of a terminal that is offered for sale at 1,799 dollars, around 1,650 euros excluding taxes.

Even more unfortunate is the user who saw a bright pink line appear on the display after only two hours of use, a typical failure that should be covered without problems by the warranty service.

For the moment, Google reassures users: “We advise anyone with a problem to contact support to investigate,” a Big G spokesman told The Verge. The more experienced and daring can also resort to DIY repairs with the iFixit kit .

These problems bring to mind the first generations of leaflets from other brands, including Samsung which managed to improve the situation in later models, as Google will certainly do too.

Even if Samsung in some of its advertisements mocks Apple because there is not yet a foldable iPhone, in the light of these reports, the choice to wait for the technology to be more mature and resistant is more than justified.
