Sonos will launch its first Wi-Fi 6 speakers. During 2022 Sonos innovations are certainly not lacking, with Sub Mini, Sonos Ray soundbar, colored Roam among others, but the brand specialized in multi-room audio is already preparing a series of innovations arriving in 2023, including its first speakers equipped with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

The devices are preceded by a manufacturer registration with the Federal Communications Commission, signed by the FCC, which is required for any product with wireless functionality to be introduced on the market. In particular, a registration emerged for the S39 device in the USA and one for the S41 device in Canada.
The S39 model could be the successor to Sonos One: in addition to Wi-Fi 6, it is also indicated with Bluetooth, therefore with the possibility of direct connection with iPhone, Android and other devices, in addition to Bluetooth LE technology which is used for WiFi pairing. It is interesting to note that this would be a novelty of no small importance for Sonos, given that so far all its speakers do not have Bluetooth, with the only exception being the portable models.
Both the S39 and S41 models could be part of the new line of Optimo speakers expected to arrive as early as August this year. In particular Sonos Optimo 2, successor of Sonos Five, is provided with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, specifications that correspond with those that emerged in the new registrations in the USA. For this model it even seems that Sonos is evaluating the possibility of connection via USB-C.
With the arrival of Wi-Fi 6 technology, even in speakers, an improvement in reliability is expected, especially when using multiple speakers. Of course, the manufacturer has not announced any of the innovations described so far, which therefore remain only anticipations. In any case, the registrations with the FCC in most cases are made shortly before the actual launch on the market, so it is likely that we will not have to wait long to find out.
