As confirmed by WhatsApp to TechCrunch, the Wear OS app is now available to all users with Wear OS 3 smartwatches and later. This includes devices like the Pixel Watch, the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5, the TicWatch Pro 5, as well as watches from brands like Fossil and more. The app is not available, however, for Wear OS 2 users, which is to exclude older watches.

WhatsApp for Wear OS was first launched in May and later officially announced at Google I/O last year.

On Wear OS, WhatsApp users can view their individual and group chats, send and reply to messages directly from the watch, which is certainly a useful feature.

The app supports text messages, but also voice messages and emojis and it is even possible to make voice calls. This all works remotely too if you have a watch with LTE support.

Interestingly, WhatsApp has no application on Apple Watch, with Google’s platform therefore being the first to offer official support for smartwatches.
