Camera comparison iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Comparison of cameras iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Finally, a new generation of iPhones has become available to a wide range of users who are engaged in content creation. For example, one of the authors of a foreign resource compared the cameras of the new iPhone 14 Pro Max and last year’s iPhone 13 Pro Max. The differences between the photos turned out to be almost zero. But at the presentation they talked about some kind of “innovation”.

Despite the presence of a matrix with real 48 MP, iPhones still take pictures in 12 MP resolution in most cases. To do this, they use the technology of combining pixels from four into one. Maximum resolution can only be achieved when using the ProRAW mode, with which most owners do not even bother. Hence the result – when comparing a 12-megapixel ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max image with a 12-megapixel ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max image, there is no significant difference in quality, especially in ideal lighting.

However, even in imperfect light, the photos on both devices are identical. It seems that Apple simply rebuilt the automatic image processing algorithms to a new profile, where it slightly reduced the brightness of the photos, and also unscrewed the white balance to “blue”.

Despite the vaunted larger pixels, low-light shots didn’t improve dramatically either. The only noticeable difference between cameras of different generations was the absence of glare from light sources in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple can be praised for this – many years later this “bug” was fixed. However, it is unlikely that the problem was fixed at the hardware level in optics – it’s just that the new Photonic Engine has become a little smarter and now removes glare during post-processing.

As you can see, iPhones have not become a breakthrough in the field of mobile photography even with the advent of new matrices. The company only tried to make new items unique with the help of software features. For example, she turned on Action Mode on the iPhone 14 Pro, while last year’s models did not receive this function. Even with all the hardware capabilities for this.
