Asus anticipates Apple, VivoWatch measures blood pressure

Asus anticipates Apple, VivoWatch measures blood pressure. On April 25, Apple obtained another patent for a blood pressure monitoring system, but there are those who could beat it to the punch: Asus announced that the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare has approved its system for measuring blood pressure applied to a smartwatch, obtaining the license for medical devices.

Even Samsung has its iMac

This was reported by the United Daily News of Taiwan, according to which in the future, ASUS VivoWatch users will not only be able to monitor changes in blood pressure thanks to this function, but will also be able to send the results of the measurements to medical personnel. Xie Mingjie, Chief Operating Officer of ASUS commented on the news:

ASUS R&D team is committed to forward-thinking algorithms and the integration of software and hardware equipment, putting user safety and product efficacy at the forefront

The feature called Asus Blood Pressure for mobile devices can be used with Asus VivoWatch to create, record, store and display blood pressure trend information and measure the wearer’s systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This feature can be enabled by updating Asus HealthConnect.

The updated version for Asus VivoWatch 5/SP has been officially launched on Google Play Store and Apple Store, while the one for VivoWatch 5 AERO is expected to be released by the end of this month.

The feature uses the sensors of Asus devices to calculate the blood flow in the arteries and the pressure of the blood vessel walls when the heart beats. According to internal tests, the accuracy is more than 12% better than that which would be obtained with a single sensor device and also complies with international standards for non-invasive blood pressure monitors such as AAMI / ANSI / ISO 81060-2.

After all, Vivo is not the first to invest in this technology, considering that already at IFA 2022 Huawei had presented its watch with pressure measurement. Not only that, already in 2019 Omron HeartGuide arrived in Italy, the watch capable of measuring blood pressure, capable of keeping up to 100 readings in memory.
