Microsoft’s focus will be on its Surface laptop and Surface Pro lineups. The company plans to introduce NPUs across its entire range of new products, following in the footsteps of Apple, which has been integrating NPUs in its devices since 2020. These updates are not just limited to internal components; rumors suggest design enhancements and the incorporation of the latest 14th generation Intel and Qualcomm X series chips.

The Surface Pro and Surface Laptop will reportedly be available in both Intel and ARM architecture variants, all equipped with an NPU. The ARM architecture version, in particular, is expected to feature a custom version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Series. Codenamed “CADMUS” internally by Microsoft, these devices are designed to synergize with the new version of Windows, codenamed Hudson Valley. This operating system is expected to integrate various AI features that leverage the NPU’s capabilities.

LG, on the other hand, is expanding its LG gram laptop line with new models, including the LG gram Pro. The 2024 models of the LG gram Pro, specifically the 16 and 17-inch versions (models 16Z90SP and 17Z90SP), will feature Intel Core Ultra processors with hybrid architecture, NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics cards. They will also include Intel’s NPU, Intel AI Boost, which enables complex processing even without a network connection.

LG’s focus on AI extends to software with the LG gram Link app. This app enhances the functionality of LG gram laptops by simplifying file and photo sharing, as well as screen mirroring between LG gram devices and Android or iOS devices. The app also incorporates AI to categorize photos stored on the gram, allowing users to search for images using keywords.

The 2024 lineup will also feature 17-, 16-, 15-, and 14-inch LG Gram laptops (models 17Z90S, 16Z90S, 15Z90S, and 14Z90S), known for their thin, lightweight design and long-lasting battery life.

Both Microsoft and LG’s announcements are a testament to the growing integration of AI in everyday devices. The inclusion of NPUs in laptops marks a significant step towards more intelligent, efficient computing. As CES 2024 approaches, more details about these innovative products are eagerly anticipated by tech enthusiasts and professionals alike. CES 2024, set to be held in Las Vegas from January 9 to 12, promises to be a showcase of the latest and greatest in technology, with these new AI-powered laptops being just a glimpse of what’s to come.
