A latest report appeared online that Apple’s partner, BOE, will supply OLED displays for the fourth-generation iPhone SE, which is expected to be released next year, while some problems have reportedly caused it to lose orders for the iPhone 15. BOE lost initial orders for OLED panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 base model expected in September due to manufacturing issues, with Samsung and LG sharing the bulk of the orders.
In particular, the problems reported by BOE would have to do with brightness and light leaks around the part of the display with the notch that houses the sensors necessary for the functioning of Face ID and the front camera. As reported by The Elec, the supplier would be trying to compensate for the loss of orders by focusing on the production of OLED panels for the iPhone SE 4. The volume of OLED panels for this next entry level smartphone is estimated at around 20 million over the next year.
Recall that iPhone SE 4 is expected to use the OLED display originally used for the 2021 iPhone 13 or 2022 iPhone 14. This is because, the report adds, it would make sense for Apple to choose the path of optimization by exploiting the inventory of components, rather than using new ones.
After initial doubts, Apple has reportedly restarted development of a fourth-generation iPhone SE with a 6.1-inch OLED display and an Apple-designed 5G chip, according to information shared by trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month. Kuo said the new iPhone SE will be similar to the standard iPhone 14, which features a 6.1-inch OLED display with thinner bezels than the current iPhone SE, which features a 4.7-inch LCD display with thicker bezels instead. .
