Sony is reporting updates to improve the high-end cinematography. FX3 version 3.00 and FX30 version 2.00 include highly requested features, such as the ability to shoot DCI 4K at true 24.00p (4096 x 2160) with the new DCI 4K (17:9) XAVC S-I format.

In addition to true 24p, FX3 version 3.00 and FX30 version 2.00 now offer support for anamorphic lenses with 1.3x and 2.0x de-squeeze options. FX3 version 3.00 now features focus breathing compensation. Focus breathing compensation, used with compatible iii lenses, minimizes angle of view shifts as the point of focus moves, with additional compensation available in post-production using Catalyst Prepare/Browse and the Catalyst plugin Prepare. In addition, other features have been added to enhance the camera’s ease of use, including the ability to switch between Standard Movie and S&Q Motion modes with the press of a button. The file naming is now similar to that of our high-end CineAlta cameras, such as the FX9, VENICE and VENICE 2, and promises a simple workflow, especially in projects where the FX3/FX30 models are used as B- or C-cameras.

The new firmware update, in addition to new features for cinematography, also offers easy connection with smartphones and integrates with Sony’s new Creators’ Cloud v. The recently launched Creators’ App allows you to transfer photos and videos from your camera to your phone and then upload them to the cloud, while also offering remote camera control.

Connection stability has been improved when transferring images from the camera to the Creators’ app on a smartphone: the transfers continue in the background even when the smartphone is in standby or another application is started. The status of the camera’s battery and media can be monitored from your smartphone, and the date and names of the cameras can be changed as needed.
