9to5Google spotted a product sheet for Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen, which appeared on Xiaomi’s global website. This would suggest a possible international launch. Here’s what you can expect from this new streaming device.
While a game-changing upgrade from previous models can be expected, there will nevertheless be a major chipset evolution, with the introduction of a quad-core Cortex-A55 CPU and a Mali-G31 MC2 GPU. If true, this would be a big improvement over the 2018 Mi Box S, which uses a now-obsolete quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-450 GPU.
Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen will also offer the Google TV interface, rather than the Android TV UI of the current model. For the rest, the company has decided to keep the same amount of RAM (2GB) and internal memory (8GB). From this point of view, the device could actually disappoint: RAM and ROM are very few, especially for a 2023 box.
Among other expected specifications of this device there will be Bluetooth 5.2 support, video playback in 4K / 60fps, Dolby Vision support, HDR10 + integration and a 3.5 mm port. There is still nothing certain about AV1 support.
Xiaomi’s new TV box will not have support for microSD cards, but will keep the current model’s USB 2.0 port. This means that you will be able to easily connect a portable hard drive or an external USB stick. This represents a point in favor of this box compared to the Chromecast with Google TV, which requires the use of a USB-C hub to expand the storage.
At the moment, an official release date for the international market has not been announced, but the company should provide more details shortly.
