The Redmi Note 12 arrive: all OLEDs, cameras up to 200 MP and extreme charging

The Redmi Note 12 arrive: all OLEDs, cameras up to 200 MP and extreme charging. Exactly one year after the presentation of the previous generation smartphones, and after a long series of official rumors and advances, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi presented the three smartphones that make up, at least in this first phase, the new Redmi Note 12 family, series a Redmi brand that dominates the mid-range within the Xiaomi catalog.

iPadOS and iOS 15.7.1 available with important security fixes

Unlike last year, all three models can count on both OLED screens and support for 5G networks. The most performing model of the three, which can count on a 200 MP main photographic sensor, also comes in two special editions, one of which offers ultra-fast charging at 210 W, bringing the total of smartphones presented to five. . Let’s find out, in detail, all the secrets of these new smartphones.

Redmi Note 12 Pro +: 200 megapixels and extreme charging, up to 210 W

The Redmi Note 12 Pro + is undoubtedly the flagship model of the new Redmi Note 12 family, the only one in the lot to be able to count on Samsung’s 200 megapixel ISOCELL HPX photo sensor, recently presented by the South Korean giant, optically stabilized.

An 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor complete the rear photographic compartment, triple and inserted inside a rectangular plate in the same color as the body (the design is reminiscent of the cousin Redmi K50i). At the front, a 16 megapixel wide-angle camera is placed in a circular and centered hole.

From the construction point of view, Redmi Note 12 Pro + enjoys the IP53 certification which indicates resistance to water and dust, it is made with an aluminum frame and has glass at the rear and front: this brings the weight bar just above the wall of 200 grams.

The front is dominated by a large 6.67-inch OLED display with Full HD + resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels, in 20: 9) with 120 Hz refresh rate, 900 nit brightness, HDR10 + support and 100 coverage. % of the DCI-P3 color space. Below the display is an optical fingerprint reader.

The beating heart of the Redmi Note 12 Pro + is the new Dimensity 1080 by MediaTek, an evolution of the previous Dimensity 920: it is a solution produced with a 6 nm production process that can count on an octa-core CPU with two power cores (Cortex- A78 @ 2.6 GHz) and six efficiency cores (Cortex-A55 @ 2 GHz) and on the Mali-G68 GPU (quad-core). Alongside the SoC, we find 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space.

The smartphone is very complete from the point of view of connectivity: we find, in fact, support for 5G networks, support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, an infrared port, NFC, GPS and a USB Type port. -C. There is no shortage of stereo audio (double speaker), the 3.5 mm audio jack and good equipment from the point of view of sensors (including the proximity sensor).

As for the software, Redmi does the homework and launches the smartphone with the MIUI 13 based on Android 12 on board. Finally, on the battery side, we find a 5000 mAh unit with support for wired fast charging at 120 W: the smartphone yes fully recharges (from scratch) in 19 minutes.

Of the Redmi Note 12 Pro + there are also two special editions, both available only in a version with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space:

  • Explorer Edition

Edition of the Redmi Note 12 Pro + characterized by some details in gold and, above all, by the support for ultra-fast charging at 210 W, which allows you to recharge the smartphone from 0% to 100% in just 9 minutes; it goes from 0% to 66% in just 5 minutes.

  • Trend Edition

Made in collaboration with the Chinese artist Wang Yibo; the smartphone is characterized by a double black and fluorescent green color and the word “RACING” that runs along the entire rear body.

Redmi Note 12 Pro: renounces the 200 megapixels but perhaps it is the most balanced

The new Redmi Note 12 Pro is practically identical to its older brother from an aesthetic and dimensional point of view, and with which it shares much of the technical data sheet.

In fact, the display, the SoC, the audio sector, the connectivity sector, three of the four photographic sensors, the battery capacity and the software remain unchanged. Everything else is revised downwards but this does not necessarily have to be seen as a problem: this could help make it more balanced.

At the MediaTek Dimensity 1080, this time, Redmi adds 6, 8 or 12 GB of RAM memory and 128 or 256 GB of storage space, always not expandable: in the basic configuration, therefore, the smartphone will be decidedly cheaper than its variant with the “+”.

The photographic sector loses the main 200 megapixel sensor in place of a more conventional 50 megapixel sensor, however optically stabilized.

Finally, compared to its older brother, it loses ultra-fast charging. The battery, which remains at 5000 mAh, still recharges very quickly thanks to the support for fast charging at 67 W, less extreme but still quite performing: the Redmi Note 12 Pro recharges from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes and arrives, then, 100% in 46 minutes.

Redmi Note 12 5G: finally both OLED (at 120 Hz) and 5G also on the base model

We arrive at the cheapest model among those just presented, which maintains the general aesthetics of the older brothers but changes radically in substance.

Unlike last year in which the Chinese manufacturer presented Redmi Note 11 4G with AMOLED display and Redmi Note 11 5G with LCD display, this year Redmi took the best of the two models, launching the new Redmi Note 12 5G on the market, equipped with both an AMOLED display and support for 5G networks, thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, flanked by 4, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage space, not expandable.

While relying on a different panel, like the brothers, Redmi Note 12 5G counts on a 6.67-inch AMOLED display (produced by Samsung) with Full HD + resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels, in 20: 9) and refresh rate at 120 Hz dominating the front, interrupted only by a tiny centered hole that houses an 8 megapixel camera. The 120 Hz on the base model represent a concrete step forward compared to its predecessors.

To keep the design unchanged compared to that of the Pro and Pro + models, although in this case the smartphone can only count on two photographic sensors (48 megapixel main and 2 megapixel depth of field), Xiaomi has placed the LED flash instead of the third sensor.

The package is completed by a good connectivity sector (5G networks, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, infrared port, NFC is missing), the presence of the 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB-C port, a fingerprint reader placed on the side, IP53 certification and a 5000 mAh battery with support for fast charging (via cable) at 33 W. Again, the software is the MIUI 13 based on Android 12.
