As we know, at the same time as the presentation of the two new smartphones, the new version of the brand’s proprietary interface, the MIUI 14, should also have taken place but, even for this one, it will be necessary to wait; despite this, the brand has circulated some information about the new interface, let’s find out what awaits us together.

We all know that smartphone manufacturers, with the exception of Google which relies on stock Android, customize their devices with a proprietary interface, the choice of a smartphone is often also based on this, since everyone has their own personal tastes; Xiaomi’s MIUI is probably not one of the most popular interfaces, at least by insiders who usually prefer leaner software close to the stock experience. The giant then, has always made distinctions between the Chinese version of MIUI and the one dedicated to other markets, also from the point of view of functionality, and this has probably contributed to creating some confusion in the community of enthusiasts, even if with the over time the gap and the differences tend to narrow.
The company has communicated that with MIUI 14 (codenamed Project Razor) it intends to offer “minimal firmware, minimum memory usage and minimum non-uninstallable applications”, with the aim of making it the “most slim and light” (dear Xiaomi, you have a long way to go for that goal). It starts from the space occupied by the interface itself in the device’s system memory, the company said it had reduced the space occupied by MIUI 14 by 23% compared to the previous MIUI 13. In addition, MIUI 14 will release non-autostart processes essentials from startup memory and will monitor memory usage of applications and system services, all of which hopefully will not in practice result in blocking notifications from some applications, an issue encountered several times in the past with the brand’s devices .
Finally, the news that will probably make users happier, or the possibility of uninstalling many system applications present on smartphones, with the exception of dialers, contacts, messages, settings, browsers, cameras, file managers and app stores, users will have the option to uninstall for example the clock, the weather app, the gallery and more. However, it is not clear at the moment whether what has been described so far will only apply to the Chinese version of MIUI 14, or if all the features listed above will also arrive in the global version.
MIUI 14 changelog leaked
Thanks to Kacper Skrzypek, MIUI tester for Xiaomi.eu, we have the opportunity to take a look at the changelog of the new version of the interface in question.
According to what is widespread, we learn that MIUI 14 will offer users more customization possibilities, thanks also to new widget formats capable of allowing a greater number of combinations (probably something similar to what was introduced by Apple and taken up by Samsung) ; still with regards to functionality, users will now be able to copy text from any image in the gallery.
The privacy and overall security of the system have been improved, more than 30 different scenarios now support end-to-end privacy without data stored in the cloud, keeping logs of actions performed locally on the device. It also appears that Xiaomi has improved interoperability between devices, making it easier to connect the earphones to your phone, tablet and TV and switch between devices.
Finally, the MI AI voice assistant has also undergone some improvements, it should now be able to perform more complicated tasks such as translations, filtering spam calls and much more, but it is very likely that this is exclusive to the Chinese market .
