What’s new: looking for differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 13

What’s new: looking for differences between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13. After the presentation of the new iPhones, the owners of the iPhone 13 breathed a sigh of relief: the iPhone did not turn into a pumpkin, the differences between the old and new generation are actually cosmetic. Therefore, without much thought and reflection, we turn to comparison.

iPhone 14: price, news … what you need to know about the new Apple smartphone and other innovations

Design

The dimensions of smartphones have not changed much, but Apple has worked on the thickness of the case. The difference of 0.15 mm and 2 g of weight in use is insignificant, however, there is a possibility that cases for the iPhone 13 will not fit the iPhone 14. But this still needs to be checked.

The materials are the same: an aluminum frame on the sides, Ceramic Shield glass covers the screen. But no more iPhone 14 mini, the little brother became part of history, and the existence of small smartphones was put an end to. Its antipode appeared at the presentation – the iPhone 14 Plus with a large 6.7-inch screen. IP68 protection against dust and moisture has been preserved.

The color scheme of the new series consists of five colors: Starlight (aka white), Midnight (black), blue, lilac and red (PRODUCT)RED.

For the iPhone 13, at the time of the start of sales last year, a palette of five colors was also offered, but after six months an additional color appeared. Thus, now the iPhone 13 is available in six colors: white, black, blue, pink, red and green.

Display

The screen is exactly the same: 6.1-inch diagonal, resolution of the OLED matrix 1170 × 2532, 460 PPI, Super Retina XDR, True Tone support, DCI P3, brightness 800 nits. The shape of the cutout has not changed, at first glance the iPhone 14 cannot be distinguished from the 13, the displays are identical.

As for the iPhone 14 Plus, apart from the increased to 6.7-inch diagonal and a resolution of 1284 × 2778, there are no differences from the usual 14th.

Chipset and connectivity

They didn’t fundamentally change the filling: the iPhone 14 uses the Apple A15 Bionic system-on-a-chip with five graphics cores, and not four, as was the case with the iPhone 13. It looks like the iPhone 14 received the same “overclocked A15” as in last season’s flagship iPhone 13 Pro.

The novelty has 4 GB of RAM, 128, 256 or 512 GB of internal memory. The iPhone 13 has a similar filling. For the latest model, Apple claims improved power consumption and increased performance, but it is hard to believe that at least some difference will be noticeable in practice. Specific indicators are as follows: iPhone 14 will play video for 1 hour longer and play music for 5 hours longer.

Please note that the iPhone 14 will be sold in the US without a physical SIM card! At the same time, support for two eSIMs is maintained. The iPhone 13 did not have such a limitation, but in the current realities it hardly makes sense to put much emphasis on this. The iPhone 14 also added support for Bluetooth 5.3, satellite communications for emergency assistance alerts, and an automatic accident detection system.

Camera

The main camera is now with improved light sensitivity: f/1.5 vs. f/1.6. Pixel sizes have increased to 1.9 microns on the iPhone 14, compared to 1.7 microns on the iPhone 13. In theory, there should be more detail and less noise compared to last year’s model.

Another difference of the novelty is an improved front camera. It’s still 12 MP, but f/1.9 versus f/2.2 in the old model. At the same time, they added autofocus and recording cinematic videos in 4K HDR versus 1080p on the iPhone 13.

One of the differences with the iPhone 14 will be background image processing using the Photonic Engine. Computational photography should help when shooting in low light, and should not be confused with night mode, which is activated separately in the iPhone settings.

The maximum video recording quality is still limited to 4K and 60 fps, but Action Mode software stabilization has been added to the iPhone 14.

Price

In the US, the iPhone 14 is $799 with 128GB of storage, and the iPhone 14 Plus with 128GB is $899. Last season’s models are $100 cheaper: the iPhone 13 mini is $599 and the iPhone 13 is $699. At the same time, Apple still has the current iPhone 12 on sale! It costs $649 with 128 GB of memory, and if the amount does not matter, then you can buy it in 64 GB for $599. Let me remind you that American prices on the Apple website do not include state taxes.

Here you also need to take into account that the iPhone 12 and 13 are freely sold, the iPhone 14 will appear on September 16, but the iPhone 14 Plus only on October 7
