On the iPhone with USB-C, Apple resigns itself, “we will have to adapt”

On the iPhone with USB-C, Apple resigns itself, “we will have to adapt”. iPhone will have the USB-C port. Not that there was any doubt about it after the European Union regulation that will force all smartphones to be homologated on this connectivity system, but now there is also official confirmation. It comes from Greg Joswiak, the Apple marketing field.

Can the RTX 4090 cause a fire?

In the context of the Tech Live event, a forum organized by the Wall Street Journal and in which in addition to Joswiak also Craigh Federighi participated, the topic was addressed in the context of the future of the platform. Speaking of the “Joz” rule, he said: “we will have to adapt”, a statement that reveals little enthusiasm for a provision that is experienced as a constraint.

We recall that the spirit with which the EU has implemented this obligation, which has now reached final approval, which will concern a vast number of electronic products, not only smartphones but also tablets, keyboards, mice, headphones, earphones, lies in the need to reduce electronic waste but according to Joswiack the European Union would have gone beyond what would have been necessary by forcing a solution that was not entirely useful.

Apple, says the head of marketing, had reached a balance point with the Lightning connector that allows you to use the cable, and therefore also the power supply, which you prefer: USB-C or USB-A. “The regulation envisaged by the European Union – explained Joswkiak – is not easily manageable. After all, the EU had already tried to apply the Micro-USB standard without succeeding. This is why we disagreed on the subject “.

Apple could potentially circumvent the rule that iPhone is compatible with USB-C by inventing some solution that circumvents the regulation; for example a wireless-only charging. Indeed Joswiak did not explicitly say that iPhone will have USB-C, but it now appears completely obvious, as confirmed by many analysts and market observers who believe that iPhone 15 in 2023 will be the first model of Apple smartphone to have the new port, making followed by iPad (now all USB-C) and other accessories (such as keyboards).

Despite the reluctance of Apple that has used the Lightning port in the past also to control the ecosystem that revolves around its smartphones, an iPhone with the USB-C port would ultimately also be an advantage from a technical point of view. We remind you that it is thanks to the USB-C port that there are smartphones that recharge completely in about twenty minutes while the iPhone still requires two and a half hours today.
