Samsung, a 5K monitor to compete with Apple and LG. Among the novelties of Samsung’s 2023 monitors, there is a new display in the Smart Monitor series which aims at the same target as the 27″ Apple and LG products with 5K resolution (5120×2880 pixels): the ViewFinity S9 monitor (model S90PC) .

Samsung has announced two new monitors at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the aforementioned ViewFinity S9 model (model S90PC) and the Smart Monitor M8 (M80C).

ViewFinity S9 integrates an array of I/O ports including HDMI, Thunderbolt 4, USB-C and DisplayPort; provides up to 96W to charge a laptop or iPad. The design is sleek, and features like the matte overlay put it in competition with Apple’s Studio Display and LG’s top-of-the-line OLED monitors. DCI-P3 color coverage is guaranteed at 99%, it integrates a calibration “engine” and a 4k webcam. Integrate the SmartThings Hub to control various devices connected to your home network (lights, cameras, doorbells, thermostats, etc.). The price has not been announced but in the US it should be around $1599.

The M8 Smart Monitor (model M80C) is a 27″ variant of the existing 32″ model, boasts USB-C capable of delivering up to 65W, 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and will be available in four colors: Daylight Blue , Spring Green, Sunset Pink and Warm White. The stand is height adjustable with tilt movement to adjust the viewing angle; it is “pivotable” by 90° (useful for viewing long documents) and is compatible with VESA mounting. The aspect ratio is 16:9, the reresh rate of 60Hz, offers brightness of 400 nits, boasts a response time of 4ms, supports HDR10, 99% RGB color space, and offers SlimFit magnetic webcam with face tracking support . This model also supports SmartThings Hub. The official price has not been announced but in the US it should be between $699 and $729.
