Samsung Electronics is charting a new course in mobile technology by extending Galaxy AI capabilities to a broader range of its devices. With the upcoming One UI 6.1 update, the company aims to “facilitate the democratization of mobile AI,” making advanced AI features previously exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series accessible to older models. This initiative marks a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge technology across various Galaxy devices, including the S23, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series, starting from the end of March.

At the heart of this update is the blend of on-device and cloud-based AI, a move designed to enhance user experiences by offering more personalized and efficient functionalities. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasizes the company’s commitment to making AI more accessible. He envisions this update as the first step towards bringing Galaxy AI to over 100 million users by 2024, showcasing Samsung’s dedication to exploring the vast potential of mobile AI.

One of the standout features of the update is the Chat Assistant, capable of adapting text and translating messages into 13 languages, embodying Samsung’s vision of breaking down communication barriers. The Live Translation feature further enriches this vision by providing real-time vocal and textual translations during phone calls, ensuring seamless international communication.

The Interprete feature introduces an innovative shared screen functionality, enabling users to have translated conversations on the go. This tool is designed to foster connectivity and understanding, regardless of language differences, by providing instant text translations during live interactions.

Enhancing the user interface, the update integrates Google Circle and Search functionalities, allowing users to generate search results with simple gestures. This integration streamlines the search process, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.

Organizational tools also receive a significant boost with this update. The Notes Assistant feature is introduced to help users create layouts, generate summaries, and translate notes efficiently. Meanwhile, the Web Assistant offers the capability to generate article summaries, and the Transcription Assistant can transcribe meeting recordings, providing summaries and translations to facilitate professional and academic work.

On the creative front, the update brings Generative Editing to the table, enabling users to resize, reposition, or realign objects in photos with ease. This feature, alongside Edit Suggestion and Instant Slow-mo, empowers users to enhance their photos and create additional frames for slow-motion videos, pushing the boundaries of mobile photography and videography.
