Spotify subscribers can no longer pay through the App Store. Spotify completely blocks subscription payments through the Apple platform.

Spotify will no longer allow users who previously subscribed to the service through the App Store to continue paying using Apple’s platform.

Spotify has begun sending emails to subscribers who pay using the ‌App Store‌ letting them know they will need to make changes. For seven years now, Spotify already did not allow customers to subscribe for a Premium subscription through the ‌App Store‌, as their availability lasted only two years between 2014 and 2016. Anyone who subscribed during that time however continued to pay for Spotify through App Store, at least until today.

In emails sent to customers, Spotify states that it no longer accepts Apple’s billing service as a payment method.

“We are contacting you because when you signed up for Spotify Premium you used Apple’s billing service to sign up. Unfortunately, we no longer accept that billing method as a form of payment.”

At the end of the final billing period, Spotify customers who have a subscription through the ‌App Store‌ will have their accounts transitioned to the free, ad-supported service. Customers will then need to re-subscribe to Premium using Spotify’s website.

There is no mechanism for Spotify to subscribe through the iOS app, as Spotify has limited subscriptions to its website to avoid paying fees to Apple.
