AirPods and AirPods Max with USB-C no earlier than 2024

AirPods and AirPods Max with USB-C not before 2024. Apple may not be ready to present some of the upcoming headphones with USB-C at the Wonderlust event on Tuesday 12 September, when in fact it is now certain that they will debut instead entire line of iPhone 15, the first to abandon the historic Lightning port in favor of the more widespread USB-C.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be very powerful with ray tracing

According to Bloomberg, the company is not yet ready to market what should be a small update to the AirPods, which would remain the same apart from the charging case which, instead of the Lightning port, will mount the USB-C.

The announcement, however, would be postponed to 2024, when the second generation of AirPods Max will also be presented together with the new AirPods, over-ear headphones which should receive the same update through the replacement of the Lightning input, the one positioned under one of the pavilions, with the new USB-C port.

AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C will be there instead

However, it is surprising to discover that the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C should make their debut in just a few days together with the iPhone 15, without any difference in terms of technical specifications apart from the new case equipped with a USB-C input for the battery charging.

If this were to prove correct – and we will have confirmation on Tuesday evening: if you want, you can follow the live broadcast with us by clicking here – it would be a real surprise: the AirPods are in fact Apple’s best-selling earphones and the fact that the company does not simply has a USB-C case to offer its customers, especially at this time of year leading up to the big Black Friday and Christmas sales, appears anomalous to say the least.

Why not?

Also because Apple has been selling two versions of AirPods 3 at the same time for some time, one with the Lightning port and one with the case enabled for wireless charging via MagSafe; so there would be nothing strange to add a third or replace the Lightning with the new USB-C.

The delay for the AirPods Max with USB-C, however, could be justified by the fact that these headphones have not been updated since 2019 and just changing the input port would not be enough to encourage the purchase: people expect a much more performing second generation .
