How to transfer playlists from Apple Music to Spotify or vice versa? Apple offers the ability to send playlists created with Apple Music to friends (provided they also subscribe to the same service) but does not allow you to transfer playlists from Apple Music to Spotify. There is a free app called SongShift that suits our purpose and allows you to transfer albums, playlists and music between services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora and others. There is also a “Pro” (paid) version of this app and the latter offers the possibility to share playlists with friends.

Here’s how to proceed with the transfer

  1. First, download the SongShift app to your iPhone or iPad. The app that works with iOS 13 or later is free and can be obtained from the App Store.
  2. Open the SongShift app; the first time a welcome message will appear and from here it will be possible to select the starting service (e.g. Apple Music) from those available.
  3. Choose “Continue”, give the app permission to access content on Apple Music and the media library with a tap on “OK”; if a message appears to indicate “library sync is not enabled on the device”, you need to open the iPhone Settings app, select “Music” and from here the item “Sync Library
  4. At this point you should see “Apple Music” among the “connected services” of SongShift; in the list of available services choose now “Spotify”
  5. Log in with your Facebook, Apple, Google or Spotify username and password.
  6. Scroll the screen to choose “I Agree” to allow SongShift to obtain access permissions
  7. If everything has been done correctly, Apple Music and Spotify will be indicated among the “connected services”: tap on “Continue” Tap on “Start now” and with the “My Shift” tab open on the screen, select the “+” sign ” top right: you will be asked if we want to see a tutorial or skip this step.
  8. You will see a screen from which you can select the item “Configure source”; choose the origin service (e.g. Apple Music) and tap on “Continue”
  9. The “Selection options” screen will appear; ignore the selection options, choose “Playlist” and tap on “Done” (top right)
  10. A move configuration confirmation screen appears; if everything is as desired, tap on “I’m done”.
  11. At this point the playlist transfer is processed; wait and (you can tap on the transfer item to see where it is).
  12. At the end of the transfer, tap on “Continue” any errors will be shown and it will be possible to tap on “Confirm pairings”. At the end (at the bottom) the message “Complete pairing” will appear
  13. Open Spotify: from here we will be able to access the playlists we had on Apple Music.
