WhatsApp introduces picture-in-picture for video calls

WhatsApp introduces picture-in-picture for video calls. WhatsApp rolls out a major update to its iPhone app. Users will now be able to use the picture-in-picture feature during video calls, so the call isn’t interrupted when they need to sign in to another app.

Google would pay Apple not to compete in search

Picture-in-picture support was first announced in December last year by WhatsApp and then made available to Beta users. Starting today, any iPhone user will be able to enjoy WhatsApp picture-in-picture video calling.

The release notes for version 23.3.77 of the app, now available on the App Store, confirm the arrival of picture-in-picture support. The PiP feature in WhatsApp works the same way it does in other apps, like Apple’s FaceTime. Once you enter a video call and minimize the app, you will continue to see the video in a small window that overlaps other apps or the Home screen and that you can move around at will.

This is a very interesting novelty, which will allow us to use any other app on the iPhone, while continuing to watch the video call in progress on WhatsApp.

Among other new features, you can now add captions to documents you send, and the character limit for group subject and description has been increased to make it easier for you to describe them. Finally, it is now possible to create custom avatars and use them as stickers and profile pictures. To get started, go to Settings > Avatars.

All these new features are being rolled out and will be available to everyone within a few days. Ready to try picture-in-picture in WhatsApp video calls?
